On September 9, 1991, by Decree No. 196 of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the State Security Committee of the Republic of Moldova was abolished, and the Ministry of National Security (MNS) was established on its basis.
On September 16 of the same year, the Government approved the basic functions and structure of the MNS, and on April 6, 1992, the Regulation on the Ministry of National Security.
On September 9, 1997, on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the formation of the Ministry of National Security, today's professional holiday was established by Decree of the President of the Republic.
On December 23, 1999, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the Law on the Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova.
Thus, the reorganization of the Ministry of National Security was completed. A Training Center—a system for the initial operational training of officers assigned to operational duties—was established and is now actively operating within the Ministry of National Security. The Ministry's primary efforts were aimed at preventing potential interethnic and social conflicts and subsequent armed clashes, and at promptly and comprehensively informing the President of the Republic, Parliament, and the Government about the situation in the country, the emergence of dangerous phenomena and processes, and their neutralization.
On these and many other issues, information and reports of a largely predictive nature were regularly sent to the republic's top leadership, which allowed for the adoption of urgent measures to prevent possible anti-state actions.
Certain actions aimed at destabilizing the socio-political situation, compromising the measures taken by the Republic’s leadership for the peaceful resolution of the military conflict, and other problems of a political, interethnic and territorial nature were also prevented and localized.
And today, the employees of this structure stand guard over the state interests and security of the Republic.
