Lawyer's Day, celebrated annually in Moldova on October 19, is a holiday for specialists in all legal professions—judges, bailiffs, lawyers, notaries, legal advisers, teachers and students of law schools, and all those who aspire to become lawyers.
On this day, legal professionals in Moldova receive congratulations. They are those who have been or will be entrusted with the enormous responsibility of protecting the constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens, shaping the legal culture of society, and respect for the law and the state's legal policy.
The inclusion of Lawyer's Day in Moldova's calendar of professional holidays demonstrates the country's high regard for the role of justice and acknowledgement of the contribution of law enforcement officers to promoting the values of a democratic society.
In October 2001, the Union of Lawyers of Moldova (ULM) was established in Chisinau.
The decision to establish this non-governmental organization was made during the first congress of lawyers of the Republic, and the organization's goal is to promote the principles of the rule of law, raise the prestige of lawyers, and improve the level of training for future lawyers in higher educational institutions of the Republic.
At the constitutional level, a strategy for strengthening the legal system is being developed, which implies the need for cooperation in order to achieve European quality standards, as well as to consolidate an atmosphere of freedom and law and order in the Republic of Moldova.
According to the lawyers themselves, the main result of fulfilling these tasks should be the establishment of the rule of law in terms of respect for the rights and freedoms of citizens, in accordance with the provisions of the European Convention for the Protection of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms.
All this can be achieved only through the joint efforts of those who are entirely dedicated to serving the cause of justice.
