If Lake Beleu is like a precious stone, then Văleţi and its surroundings are truly a worthy setting. High, picturesque hills stretch past the village, especially beautiful at sunset.
They are mesmerizing, sometimes reminiscent of Egyptian pyramids, but they conceal far more ancient secrets... The hills consist of deposits of sand, clay, and pebbles. The deposits are up to 4 million years old. Paleontologists have found the bones of mammoths and other extinct animals here. Some of these specimens can be seen in the Valen Museum.
Not far from the village is one of the two channels feeding Lake Beleu—the Manolescu. An old wooden bridge spans the channel. According to legend, the path to this bridge is that of Petru Rareș, the son of Stefan cel Mare, who, according to legend, loved to relax and fish on Lake Beleu.
Another landmark of the village of Văleni is the Bejenaru family, which has been making drums for 30 years. It was Lidia Bejenaru who participated in the famous song "Bunica bate toba," which the band Zdob ši Zdub performed at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Finally, it may come as no surprise to many that Moldova also produces oil... Although small quantities, there are several wells near the village of Văleni. However, this shouldn't be cause for celebration, as oil production threatens the ecological balance of the unique Prutul de Jos Nature Reserve .
