In the northern Donduseni district, in the valley of the Kubolta River, lies the ancient Moldovan village of Plop. Situated on a hill, the Kubolta River, which originates in the Ocnița district near the village of Lipnik, flows through its lower part, on the outskirts of the village.
The village is small, with a population of about 1,500, the majority of whom are Moldovan (96%). It's quiet and cozy, somewhat deserted, like many other villages in Moldova. Plop is famous for its springs, which have been flowing since ancient times from the foot of a high, steep slope made of Sarmatian limestone in the immediate vicinity of the Kubolta River, feeding it with their waters.
According to various publications, there were once up to 50 springs along a coastal strip several hundred meters long. However, due to neglect, siltation, and rainfall, most of them dried out and sank underground, never reaching the surface. This is despite the fact that the Plop springs are a natural monument and are under state protection.
However, our state has no time for monuments, and these famous springs, with their excellent, tasty, and clean water—a rarity in Moldova—would otherwise remain neglected. But there are people in the village of Plop who care about the fate of these famous springs. And in the mid-2010s, these people began restoring what had long been the village's pride.
Over the past few years, 18 springs have been cleared, most of them lined with limestone, and beautiful stone pavilions with red tile roofs have been erected over the largest ones.
At the same time, the surrounding area was being improved, and it was decided to create a recreational area for villagers and tourists. Some of the springs were connected to a single collector, from which the water flows into the factory building for the bottling line, where it is then bottled and labeled "Aqua-Plop."
We visited here at the end of our journey along the Kubolty River, and it was at this recreation area that we decided to take a break before returning home. And, of course, we drank the purest and most delicious water from one of the springs, recommended to us by a local elder who believed it to have the best-tasting water.

And the water really was unusually pleasant and very cold. And the quality was much better than many other waters sold under well-known and little-known brands.
To be fair, we haven't seen this type of water in any Chisinau store, but perhaps we weren't paying attention, or perhaps the plant's capacity isn't yet sufficient to quench the thirst of all the residents of our republic.
