Located 20 km from the district center of Floresti and 124 km from Chisinau is the small, cozy village of Izvoare, which translates as "Springs." According to the 2004 census, the village has a population of 1,092, most of whom are Moldovan.

It's worth noting that there are several villages with this name in Moldova. The village's main attraction is its famous springs, whose waters form a stream that flows into the Kainari River. There are 11 springs in the village, all flowing at the foot of the steep slope on which the village is located.

The Izvor Springs are a hydrological natural monument and are protected by the state. Even during Soviet times, this area was enclosed by a beautiful stonework made of various types of stone, both from the nearby quarry and from other deposits in northern Moldova.

The decoration of this masonry utilizes not only limestone but also fragments of black and red granite. It is the stonework, executed with great skill and imagination, that is most memorable when visiting this natural landmark.

Attached to the wall is a marble plaque with an interesting motto, written in Cyrillic. This motto reads: When you drink water, think of the source.

Each of the 11 springs is individually designed and unlike any other, a very interesting artistic choice that speaks volumes about the skill and artistic taste of the architects and builders of this beautiful monument.

In many places, pipes protrude from the stonework, but unfortunately, water flows from none of them. This most likely indicates that the springs haven't been cleaned for a long time, and the water finds its own way and flows out from under the stonework.

All the water flows into two interconnected basins, one small and one larger. The water then flows into a 2-3 meter wide stream, which meanders through a meadow and, after approximately 500-600 meters, flows into the Kainary River.

We felt that the Izvor springs are not as abundant as they once were. However, we still left with the best impressions, as it is a very beautiful and interesting monument, and the road to it through the Florești fields is very picturesque.

We wish you a pleasant journey!
