"Traveler, stop! Up on the hill burns the Candle of Thanksgiving.
And if in your life you consider yourself grateful to someone for something, get up, pray and go...”
On the outskirts of the city of Soroca, at the suggestion of the Moldovan writer Ion Drutsa, a monument was unveiled on March 27, 2004, which was named "The Candle of Thanksgiving".
A monument was erected on a cliff above the ancient Dniester. It is one of the most significant structures in the modern history of Moldova.
It symbolizes the new revival of Moldovan culture.
This is a monument to all the destroyed monuments of our long-suffering culture.
This is a tribute to all those who have preserved the culture, language, and history of Moldovans. It's no coincidence that this is reflected in the monument's very name.
A candle, as a symbol of hope, illuminates the path to the future. A path that can, of course, only be mastered by the power of goodness and humanity, by creativity.
The monument is a candle-shaped bell tower about 30 meters long.
At night, its light reaches the villages of Otaci and Kamenki. The location was perfectly chosen; the view from the top of the hill is indescribably beautiful.
From the waters of the Dniester, steps lead to the top of the hill, and after climbing them we will find ourselves at the foot of the “Candle of Thanksgiving” monument.
For tourists there is a terrace, which has the shape of a semicircle, forming a natural amphitheater.
Standing on the platform in front of the monument, you can appreciate the full beauty of Moldovan nature. To your right are the wooded hills of the Soroca region. To your left are the turbulent waters of the Dniester.
A majestic yet serene scene unfolds before you. This is a truly extraordinary place, allowing you to forget the hustle and bustle of the world, as if merging with nature, feeling a sense of harmony.
The elements of Nature and the elements of human history of this region reconcile us, allowing us to look at ourselves from the outside and realize the full extent of our responsibility to the future.
When you come to the city of Soroca, don’t forget to visit this place.
