Another of the large caves on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
Its length is over 1700 meters, it is the second largest in Moldova after the Emil Racovita cave, the third longest in Europe and the sixth longest in the world.
The cave is located in the forest of the village of Zolochen, which is located on the right bank of the Dniester.
The village itself is located 2 kilometers northeast of the town of Criuleni.
The cave was discovered by accident by amateur speleologists in the 1970s.
The cave was carved by water flows, tectonic faults, earthquakes, and exogenous processes in the middle and lower Sarmatian limestones. These limestones are 130,000,000 years old.
The cave consists of a network of cracks and voids that form numerous rooms, potholes, and tunnels, which can be roughly divided into three floors.
Among the large halls, the "Great Hall" is worth noting; it is 25 meters long, up to 6 meters wide, and more than 7 meters high—what a stunning sight!
Also, such halls as “Metro” are over 6 meters long, up to 1 meter wide and 0.5-0.9 meters high.
