Near the village of Criva, Edinet County, approximately 265 kilometers north of Chisinau, lies one of the largest caves in the world.
The length of the cave's underground galleries is more than 89,000 meters; this unique natural phenomenon consists of several levels.
The cave's size is also impressive, ranking third among gypsum caves and eighth among the largest caves in the world.
The cave was discovered quite recently: in 1959, a gypsum quarry explosion revealed large spaces within the mountain. These spaces were subsequently explored by speleologists.

Scientists discovered huge halls here, which received the beautiful names of “Cinderella’s Hall,” “Hall with Columns,” “Dacia’s Hall,” and “Hundred-Meter Hall.”
In addition, numerous galleries have been explored, which form real underground labyrinths in which it is very easy to get lost and very difficult to find the only exit, so be careful when exploring these places.

Among the attractions of the Emil Rakovica Cave are two wells and more than 20 underground lakes, the most significant of which are the Blue Lake, the Dinosaur Lake, and the Nautilus Lake.
What is noteworthy is that the waters of underground lakes are rich in mineral salts, which can have a healing effect on the human body.
One of the peculiarities of the Emil Rakovica Cave is that all the underground halls and galleries are thickly covered with a layer of soft clay, and the clay comes in a wide variety of shades: green, blue, red, black, and white clay can be found here.
Currently, the cave is being explored by amateur speleologists. Visiting the cave is only possible with an experienced speleologist guide and in small groups.

It is worth keeping in mind that underground routes are not marked.
If you decide to visit the Emil Racovita Cave, we recommend contacting the Moldovan speleological club ABIS.
They're always happy to help you organize your trip, and the people there are experienced and have been to caves many times. More information can be found on their website: http://speleo.md
