KaraGani Winery is a family-owned winery with Gagauz roots.

KaraGani Winery is a private family winery founded in 2006 by the Cerven family in Moldova. The Cerven family's winemaking traditions are rooted in the Gagauz culture—an Orthodox Turkic-speaking people who settled in what is now Moldova in the early 18th century. The craft of winemaking has been passed down from generation to generation, and today, the couple, Lora and Gheorghe Cerven, continue this centuries-old legacy, creating unique wines with inimitable character.

History and cultural heritage

The Cherven family not only makes wine but also actively preserves Gagauz cultural traditions . A museum of Gagauz culture is located on the winery grounds , displaying antique household items, photographs of relatives, Gagauz furniture, hand-woven carpets, and chests containing traditional wedding dowries.

Each item in the museum tells its own story, allowing guests to not only enjoy wine but also immerse themselves in the region's rich cultural heritage .

Vineyards and terroir

The KaraGani Winery vineyards are located on historically significant land that preserves the memory of great events of the past:

  • The plantations start from the Lower Trajan's Wall , built in the 3rd century AD, and continue to the monument to the Battle of Cahul in 1770 .

  • The region's favorable microclimate, fertile soils, and the influence of rivers create unique conditions for growing grapes.

  • The vineyards are equipped with modern technologies, while maintaining the winemaking traditions passed down from generation to generation .

This historical and cultural connection to the land gives the wines a unique character, depth and authenticity , reflecting the spirit of Gagauzia.

Wine production

KaraGani Winery produces high-quality wines using traditional winemaking methods and modern technologies:

  • Careful selection of the harvest and fermentation;

  • Aging wines in oak barrels to enrich the aroma and taste;

  • Control of all stages of production to ensure consistent product quality.

Each bottle of wine reflects the experience accumulated over centuries and the deep attachment of the Cherven family to their native land.

Tastings and gastrotourism

KaraGani Winery invites guests to exclusive tastings and gastronomic tours :

  • Laura and Gheorghe will personally tell you about each wine, its characteristics, production methods and the history of the variety;

  • For lovers of gastronomy, we offer dishes of traditional Gagauz cuisine : cheese, Gozleme , lamb dishes, including kavurma and shurpa ;

  • Cooking master classes are available, where guests will learn how to prepare authentic Gagauz dishes.

Thus, a visit to the winery turns into a full-fledged cultural and gastronomic journey , immersing oneself in the history of the region and the atmosphere of family winemaking.

Philosophy of KaraGani Winery

The Cherven family believes that wine is a reflection of the land, culture, and soul of the winemaker . Care for the vineyards, respect for tradition, and a commitment to excellence make KaraGani Winery unique among Moldovan wineries.

Every guest leaves the winery with a feeling: history, culture, nature, and the art of winemaking come together here . KaraGani Winery is more than just a winery, but a place where wines with the history, spirit, and character of Moldova are born.
