Negrya Monastery

Spiritual monastery on the land of the Hincesti district

The Negriu Convent is located just 70 km from Chisinau , adjacent to the parish church of the village of Negriu in the Hincesti district , built in 1878. This monastery combines spiritual heritage, the region's history, and picturesque natural beauty, becoming a magnet for both pilgrims and tourists interested in the culture and history of Moldova.

History of the monastery

In 1969, the village of Negrya suffered devastating landslides that destroyed almost all the houses. Miraculously, the church remained untouched—the landslides changed direction just a few meters away, leaving it with only minor cracks.

That same year, the church was closed by the authorities , but thanks to the efforts of local residents, who hid the keys and guarded the shrine, the temple was not destroyed . The icons and church valuables were preserved, and the temple itself was renovated annually.

In 1988 , on Palm Sunday , the church was reopened and the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated here after a long period of oblivion.

The establishment of the monastery

In 1995, construction began on the Negrya Convent around the parish church. In 2000, the monastery officially opened its gates and was consecrated by Bishop Anatolie of Cahul and Lapușnean .

In 2004, a summer church dedicated to the Protection of the Mother of God was consecrated , becoming an important spiritual sanctuary for the monastery. Today, the monastery has everything necessary for life and ministry:

Arable land and outbuildings

Shrines of the monastery

Of particular spiritual value to the monastery are the relics of 18 pious fathers from the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra , which are kept within the monastery. Pilgrims come here to venerate the relics and pray for health and spiritual strength.
