Monastery of the Holy Great Martyr Jacob the Persian

The monastery in honor of the Holy Great Martyr Jacob the Persian is located near the village of Sirets in the Straseni district, just 16 km from Chisinau , among picturesque fields and forests that create an atmosphere of solitude and spiritual peace.

The founding of the monastery

The monastery was founded on December 10, 1998 , the feast day of the Great Martyr Jacob the Persian. The initiators of the founding were the ministers of the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Sirets :

Hierodeacon Nathanael .

It was they who laid the foundation for a new monastic life in the area, creating a spiritual center for local residents and future pilgrims.

Construction of temples

The first step in the development of the monastery was the construction of a church in honor of the holy great martyr Jacob the Persian:

The foundation stone was laid on May 24, 1999 ;
On October 29, 2000, the church was consecrated, becoming a central place of prayer for the first monks and parishioners.

In the following years the monastery expanded:

On March 22, 2005, construction began on a large church designed for holding ceremonial services and pilgrimage events;
Completion of construction and consecration took place in September 2006 .

Today, the church is a harmonious blend of traditional Orthodox architecture and modern construction technologies. Inside, icons and frescoes painted in a realistic style create an atmosphere of spiritual concentration.

Shrines of the monastery

The Sirets Monastery is famous for its spiritual treasures and shrines , which attract believers from all over Moldova and neighboring countries:

Ark with the relics of the holy great martyr James the Persian ;
A particle of the relics of the holy hierarch Nicholas ;
A piece of wood from the cross on which the Savior was crucified;
Other important relics donated by Orthodox centers and churches.

These shrines became not only the spiritual center of the monastery, but also a place where pilgrims flock for prayer, repentance, and spiritual solace.

Modern development of the monastery

The monks are actively involved in the construction and improvement of the monastery:

The construction of a refectory is planned ,
Cell buildings ,
The fence around the monastery ,
A small subordinate monastery ,
Wells for household and spiritual needs .

In addition, the monastery actively participates in missionary activities :

The monks carry out spiritual work among prisoners in the Pruncul prison , helping them through prayer and conversation to understand spiritual values and find inner peace;
Educational lectures and training in the fundamentals of the Orthodox faith and traditions are held, making the monastery an important center of spiritual enlightenment.

Life of the monastic community

The community of the monastery is built according to classical monastic principles:

The monks conduct communal worship , including daily morning and evening prayers;
They engage in handicrafts, icon painting, construction and gardening to keep the monastery in order;
They support pilgrims , helping them strengthen their faith and find spiritual guidance;
They pay attention to the education of future novices, teaching them monastic discipline and spiritual traditions.

The significance of the monastery

The Monastery of Jacob the Persian became:
