Rock Monastery of the Annunciation
Not far from the main monastery is the Annunciation Rock Monastery , one of the oldest and most beautiful monasteries in Moldova. It was founded in 1777 by monk Bartholomew Krivoruchka on the site of an older hermitage that had been built in the 16th and 17th centuries.
The monastery is located in a narrow, deep ravine on the bank of a mountain stream flowing into the Dniester. The architectural design here is particularly impressive given the challenging terrain: the buildings fit harmoniously into the rocky ledges, creating a unique blend of nature and architecture. The monastery complex, which stretches for approximately 650 hectares, is under state protection. It is an unforgettable place, with springs babbling in the depths of the ravine.


Stretching along the hill for 10 km, the Saharna River overcomes the rapids of 22 cascades, creating a unique oxygen-rich climate in this wonderful kingdom of shrubs and flowers.

One of the famous sites on the Saharna monastery grounds is the holy water spring. The water flows from the mountains into a mini-pool and is very cold at any time of year.

The monastery is especially beautiful in winter.



The only relics of the Holy Martyr Macarius in Moldova are kept here.

On the Grimidon hill (100 m) in the immediate vicinity of the monastery, there is a place protected by a small chapel, in which is located the imprint of the footprint of the Mother of God, (Reconstructed in 1993)

The monastery grounds are always very clean; the monks keep it neat. There are lots of flowers.
