History of the monastery
The modern monastery was founded in 1999 by a group of monks on the site of a former pioneer camp. Initially, the monastery was consecrated in the name of St. Ephraim the Syrian and St. Antim of Iveron . Over time, the monks dispersed throughout the world, and today the monastic community consists of four nuns and a spiritual father , who has been in Kuizeuk since 2002.
Interestingly, the monastery's history dates back three centuries. According to archival data, a small monastic community existed here, and a charter from 1778 confirms that the ruler, Alexander Gika, resolved a dispute between two landowners over the demarcation of their lands bordering the monastery's estate.
The exact date of the old monastery's closure is unknown, but historians suggest that it was abolished by Archbishop Dmitry Sulima between 1821 and 1844, as part of a campaign to close small monasteries that lacked their own economic base.
