The Greek salad , which literally translates as "village," is believed to have originated in Ancient Greece. However, many point to a later date in Greek history.

In its homeland,  Greek salad  was called "village salad" because it included ingredients that were accessible to the Greek commoner.

But the main ingredient of this dish in its classic version is tomatoes, which appeared in Greece at the beginning of the 19th century, which is the reason for the endless debate about its origin.

Throughout its history, the Greek salad recipe has remained virtually unchanged, unlike the Caesar salad. Its key feature remains the coarsely chopped, rather than shredded, vegetables.

Ingredients:

1. Feta cheese (can be replaced with feta cheese) 200 gr.

2. Tomatoes 3-4 pcs.

3. Cucumbers 1-2 pcs.

4. Bell pepper 1-2 pcs.

5. Shallots (can be replaced with onions) 1 pc.

6. Pitted olives 80 g.

7. Olive oil 15 gr.

8. Greens – parsley, basil

9. Salt, pepper, oregano

Method of preparation:

· Cut the tomatoes into cubes.

· Cut the onion into half rings.

· Remove the seeds from the pepper and cut into cubes.

· Cut the cucumber into cubes.

· Cut olives into 2 pieces or cut into rings.

· Cut the feta or feta cheese into cubes.

· Place everything in a dish.

· Add herbs and seasonings.

· Add olive oil and stir.

Ideally, for a salad dressing, olive oil is mixed with balsamic or wine vinegar (6-7%) in a 1:1 ratio. Lettuce leaves are also often placed on the bottom of the dish. And in Greece, cucumbers are peeled and left untouched!
