There are many different holidays in Moldova. We have many holidays with different statuses, there are official, traditional, professional, etc.

In order to obtain a list of holidays in Moldova, let us turn to the Labor Code of the Republic of Moldova, namely, Article 111, which contains the official holidays of the country.

So in Moldova they officially note:

January 1 - New Year;

7 and 8 January - Nativity;

the first and second days of Easter according to the church calendar;

second Monday after Easter (Radunitsa);

May 1 - International Workers' Day;

May 9 is Victory Day and the memory of heroes who fell for the independence of the Motherland;

August 27 is Independence Day;

August 31 - holiday «Limba noastre»;

National Wine Day in Moldova.

In addition, there is a parliamentary resolution «On days of remembrance, holidays and days of rest in the Republic of Moldova» N433-XII dated December 26, 1990.

Changes and additions are still being made to this document, including those made this year, when the «Apple Festival» was established.

This document contains the same list of non-working days as in the above article of the Labor Code. But at the same time, a list of holidays is given when work does not stop (except for those holidays that are simultaneously in different categories). Moreover, all holidays are divided into two categories: the so-called «national» and «traditional».

 

Moldova's national holidays include

Mihai Eminescu Day of Honour (15 January);

Memorial Day (March 2) (day of remembrance of those killed in the armed conflict of 1992 to protect the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova and the victims of this conflict);

Freedom Day (April 7) (day of remembrance of young people who took part in a peaceful demonstration in the name of freedom and democracy);

Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Disaster and Other Radiation Accidents (April 26);

National Flag Day (April 27);

Occupational Health and Safety Day (28 April);

Family Day (May 15);

Day of Remembrance for Victims of Fascism (June 22);

Day of Proclamation of Sovereignty (June 23)

Stefan cel Mare Memorial Day (July 2);

Remembrance Day for the Victims of Stalinism (July 6);

Dniester Day (last Sunday in May);

Constitution Day (29 July);

Independence Day (August 27)

Holiday «Limba noastre» (August 31);

National Apple Festival (last Saturday and Sunday in September);

National Wine Day (first Saturdays and Sundays of October);

Day of Remembrance for those killed in the war in Afghanistan (February 15).

Here is a list of traditional holidays:

New Year (1 January);

«Mercishore» (March 1);

International Women's Day (8 March);

International Workers' Solidarity Day (1 May);

Victory Day and the memory of fallen heroes for the independence of the Motherland (May 9);

Children's Day (June 1).

This parliamentary resolution stipulates that for students the Christmas holidays last from December 24 to January 15.

There are also many government regulations that also establish various holidays. Such resolutions, in official language, are adopted to guarantee conditions for the continuity of folk traditions; implementation of the initiative of citizens, state and public organizations, creative unions and other associations; to honor famous people; opportunities to celebrate significant historical, socio-political dates, professional holidays, other holidays and events associated with the change of seasons and human life.

In the vast majority of cases, government regulations establish professional holidays without suspending work activities.

The government can approve any holiday and outline the conditions for its holding. The list of holidays approved by the government is quite long, and we will give just a few:

Miner's Day (third Sunday in August);

Civil Servant Day (23 June);

Sociologist's Day (November 14);

Historian's Day (June 18);

Statistics Worker's Day (October 20);

Grandma's Day (last Saturday in September);

Rescuer Day (April 5);

Prison Worker's Day (third Saturday of December);

Geologist's Day (first Sunday in April);

Fisherman's Day (second Sunday in July);

Athlete's Day (third Saturday in May);

Forester's Day (third Saturday in September);

Apple Festival Day (last Saturday and Sunday of September);

and many others.

While anticipating questions from readers, I note: according to current legislation, when it comes to holidays that are also days off, the activities of any bodies, enterprises and organizations that provide socially important areas of public activity, such as medicine, safety, etc., should not be interrupted, as well as in cases where the peculiarities of production and provision of services do not allow work to be stopped.
