Złoc Monastery

St. George's Monastery in the village of Zlotsi is the spiritual heart of the Cimislia region.

If you're looking for a place of pilgrimage or want to experience Moldova's living history, St. George's Monastery is the perfect choice. Situated just 15 km from Cainari in the Cimislia district, it is a true gem of the country's spiritual heritage.

History of the monastery

The monastery was founded in 1941 as a skete by Abbot Seraphim Dabizha of Suruceni Monastery and Hieromonk Gregory of Noi Neamț Monastery. Initially under the jurisdiction of the Bender Diocese , the skete soon became an independent monastery.

In 1942, the church was consecrated in honor of the Holy Great Martyr George . In the post-war period, the monastery owned over 50 hectares of land and was respected as a well-organized spiritual community.

However, by 1949, the monastery was closed. Abbot Seraphim Dabizha was deported to Siberia, the monastery cells were used as collective farm warehouses, and the church as a cattle farm. In 1970, the complex was completely destroyed.

A legend about a 6-meter-long crucifix survives: after the closure of the hermitage, it was moved to the cemetery in Satul Nou. When someone tried to cut it down, blood began to drip from the crucifix—a testimony to the faith and miracles remembered by local residents.

Revival of the monastery

In 1995, the monastery was restored by His Grace Vikenty, Bishop of Bender and Tiraspol. The following were rebuilt:

  • Cell building for monks;

  • Church of the Holy Great Martyr George ;

  • Chapel in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" .

The chapel is small, rectangular, with a narthex and a bell tower. The interior is simple and harmonious: the walls are adorned with icons painted by the monk Job, creating an atmosphere of peace and spiritual tranquility.
